A person who contaminated treats with tranquilliser and distributed them to children at a summer camp in Leicestershire has confessed to sexual crimes against two young males who were between nine and ten.

Jon Ruben was taken into custody after eight children and an older person fell ill at the facility in the summer month.

The elderly man, from the Nottinghamshire area, pleaded guilty to a total of 17 charges when he was present at the courthouse on the end of the week.

Yet, he refused to admit one of the sexual offences he was accused of, which was involving a nine-year-old boy.

The accused was held in detention ahead of a additional proceeding on late November.

'Sweet game'

Mary Prior KC, prosecuting, described the criminal behavior to the legal proceedings.

She said his targets were disadvantaged youngsters who were attending a summer camp which he operated.

The defendant engaged in a "sweet game" with the children, Mrs Prior explained, in which he would access the children's bedrooms when they were preparing to sleep and request they to eat sweets "as quickly as they can".

She informed the proceedings the defendant had played this game with the young males "repeatedly", and youngsters had earlier experienced illness the following morning.

She stated Ruben had been capable of justifying this for many years as the minors being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepson had worries in recently.

Mrs Prior KC continued: "In the summer" his family member had worries about what was going on, with valid cause.

"They chose" to have a look in the defendant's belongings."

The prosecutor said items including baby oil, ointment and injection devices were located, and his stepchild contacted the authorities about his concerns.

She stated Ruben went on to conduct the "candy game" with six boys that night - July 26th - and they were all sick the following morning.

"Law enforcement" had not responded by that time," she added.

The regulatory agency, the police conduct office, had stated that it was reviewing the police response of the incident.

The legal representative said the youngsters were unable to walk properly due to being ill, so Ruben's stepson notified the law enforcement a second time.

She explained the defendant then engaged in the "candy game" in a space of five children.
