Around 50 vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Vehicles, exterior walls and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they announced in a release.
Law enforcement say they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a resident observed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored substance.
The liquid had been applied in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Officers then discovered multiple other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials state preliminary tests indicate the fluid was probably blood from a person.
"There is still no lead as to its origin; authorities are not yet cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the event," they added.
Local authorities said they were working "to solve the case" and have requested to the residents for details.
A high-ranking representative commented the vandalism made him without words and needed to be resolved quickly.
"This incident affects the core of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he posted on social media, mentioning the murder of nine people by a gunman aiming at people of foreign heritage in 2020.
